ARTIST'S PROFILE

Cindy Schave was born in Madison, Wisconsin and raised in the neighboring community of DeForest. She recalls a childhood filled with creative activities -- drawing, painting, and working on numerous craft projects with her mother. Even as a youngster, she enjoyed exploring the out-of-doors, along with perusing the resulting collections of wildflowers, intriguing leaves, and pretty stones. Her mother's flowerbeds and rose gardens further fostered Cindy's love of the color and beauty to be found in nature. As a carpenter and cabinet-maker, her father instilled in her the value of quality craftsmanship. Annual family vacations, whether to a northern Wisconsin resort or much further from home, served to whet her appetite for a lifetime of exploration and learning about other places and other cultures.

Cindy is an artist who embraces the spirit of nature and captures its essence in her pastel and acrylic paintings. In travels throughout North America, Cindy has been touched by the magnificence of distant vistas while remaining aware and increasingly appreciative of the beauty that surrounds her in day-to-day Midwest life. These observations are reflected in her landscape paintings which celebrate the natural world that she loves.

Also through her travels, Cindy has developed a world-view that delights in the diversity of humankind. An active participant in living history since 1986, she has attended events from the Midwest to the Rockies, meeting many unique and interesting people along the way. It was the "rendezvous" experience that reawakened her creative eye and heart, finding expression through graphite portraits featuring various "buckskinner" personalities -- mountain men, Native Americans, children -- and paintings of rendezvous-related objects and scenes.

Cindy currently works primarily in pastel, finding it to be the perfect combination of drawing and painting mediums. She studies independently and with Jeb Prazak at Metropolitan Art in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, where she is nourished by the creative atmosphere and the camaraderie of fellow artists. She continues to experiment with other mediums as new opportunities arise.

Through the creative process, Cindy seeks to express the joy she feels in the people, places, objects and experiences that enrich her world. She envisions that her artwork will strike a familiar chord in the hearts of its viewers, bringing deeper awareness of the beauty present in all things.

Cindy is represented by Fine Line Designs Gallery, Ephraim Wisconsin.
